Seven Points to Watch When Choosing Roller Shutter Systems

1–3: Slat, infill and width

  • Slat type: polyurethane-filled slats provide insulation and quiet running, extruded slats provide strength.
  • Infill: filled slats stand out in heated spaces, robust profiles in external stores.
  • Width: as the opening grows, the slat thickness and the shaft diameter must be recalculated.

4–5: Motor and controls

Motor power is chosen according to the weight of the shutter and the daily cycle count. In heavy use, side-motor systems are preferred. On the control side, remote control, key switch and integration with building automation should all be assessed.

6–7: Safety and installation

  • Safety: photocell, bottom rubber safety edge and manual release during a power cut.
  • Installation: the box height, the side guide clearance and the plaster allowance must be measured before installation.
