Boom barrier
This is the most common solution. It closes openings of between three and six metres, and the opening time is usually 1.5 to 3 seconds. It integrates easily with number plate recognition, card access and remote control. In heavy traffic, fast models should be preferred.
Rising bollard
With its cylinder rising from the ground it forms a physical obstacle; it does not merely direct vehicle traffic but also resists forced entry. It is preferred at the entrances of critical facilities and in pedestrian zones. Because it requires below-ground preparation, its installation is more involved.

- High daily traffic, standard security level → boom barrier.
- Physical resistance to forced entry required → rising bollard.
- Pedestrian and vehicle traffic intertwined → rising bollard plus a separate pedestrian crossing.
