Roller Blind and Shutter Systems

Sun, heat and privacy control on the window and the facade

A roller blind is a moving skin added outside the window: in summer it stops the sun before it reaches the glass, and in winter the layer of air trapped between glass and slats reduces heat loss. Fully closed it gives blackout and privacy; partly closed it filters the light; and while closed it also makes access from outside harder.

  • Stops the sun before it reaches the glass: lower cooling load in summer, less heat loss in winter
  • Blackout and privacy when fully closed, filtered light in intermediate positions
  • Polyurethane-filled aluminium slats: quiet running and extra insulation
  • Motorised control, timed operation and manual release during a power cut

Roller blind or roller shutter?

The two work on the same principle but answer different needs. A roller blind sits in front of the window; its primary job is control of sun, heat, blackout and privacy, and while closed it also contributes to security. A roller shutter is designed for shop, retail and warehouse frontages; it is built with thicker slats and stronger locking hardware to protect goods outside working hours. For frontages that need heavy-duty protection, see our roller shutter systems on their own product page.

Why does the box type matter?

  • Monoblock: the box is produced together with the window frame and gives the cleanest look in new build
  • Built-in: the box stays inside the wall and is invisible on the facade; it must be planned at design stage
  • Surface-mounted: fitted to an existing window afterwards, the most practical solution in a renovation
  • The box size depends on the winding diameter of the slats; the higher the blind, the larger the box

Motorised or manual?

  • Manual (belt or geared crank) is an economical, maintenance-free solution on small windows
  • A motorised system brings comfort on wide openings and upper floors
  • With remote control, group control and timers the whole facade can be managed with one command
  • A motorised blind must have a manual release for use during a power cut

The slat type, the box arrangement and the control are determined by the size of your window and the orientation of the facade; during the survey we measure on site and choose the right system together.
