Hinged or telescopic?

The platform is the same on both ramps; the difference is in the lip at the end. The hinged lip folds out and rests on the trailer bed: simple, robust and economical. The telescopic lip, on the other hand, slides in and out, which is an advantage with trailers loaded right up to the rear and with varying trailer lengths. Where bed heights and the loading pattern are consistent, a hinged lip leveller is usually enough.

What do we look at in the dock area?

• The level difference between the warehouse floor and the vehicle bed, and how much it varies day to day
• The vehicle types that pull in: a mix of articulated lorries, trucks and vans widens the working range
• The daily vehicle count and the traffic in the two busiest hours; that is where the capacity bottleneck forms
• Forklift type and load weight: the load capacity and platform width are chosen accordingly
• Planning the door, the shelter and the ramp together; chosen separately, the dimensions never match

Safety and maintenance

• Hydraulic hose burst protection prevents a sudden drop under load
• The maintenance strut makes working underneath the platform safe
• Toe guards stop the forklift slipping off the edge of the platform
• Hydraulic level, seals and the lip hinge should be checked every six months
